Registration: Math & Physics Classes
Mathematics & Physics courses are available through WebAdvisor registration. Many of the math courses have required co-requisite labs. When reviewing Web Advisor information, please read the “more” section to ensure you know all of the days and times that the course and lab will meet.
To determine the math course needed for a degree (AA, AS, AAS), view the flowchart of courses or talk with an advisor to discuss the best course of study.
If you attempted to register for a math or physics class and you receive a note that says:
- the class is restricted to a certain major, that is because certain classes are restricted during pre-registration to allow students who need the class to complete a degree the first opportunity to register. In addition, some classes are restricted by majors to help ensure that students sign up for the correct classes that will lead to their desired degree. If you believe this restricted course is required for your goals, please see the Department Head for Math & Physics to obtain a form that allows you to register. The form is a Registration Override Request Form (Form #895) signed by the Department Head or designee. Before asking for the form, (1) be sure you have the proper prerequisites for the course, and (2) choose the section into which you want to enroll. Be certain there are no time conflicts with other classes in which you have enrolled. You can obtain the form on campus from student services or in the Math Department (TE101), or contact the Department Head.
- the class is a petition-restricted course, this means Math Department approval is required before registering for an online section. We require this approval to help ensure that students have the needed software (such as Microsoft Office Equation Editor) and basic skills (such as using Excel) to be successful in a math or physics on-line course. Mathematics and Physics courses taught online require students to have certain skills and software that are different from those of other on-line courses such as humanities. To learn more about taking online courses and completing the Petition, go to Math and Physics On Line Courses
- the class is full, then you should continue to check Web Advisor frequently to see if someone who is registered drops the course or is purged for non-payment. Math and physics classes usually DO FILL UP and they are normally capped according to the number of seats that the room will hold. Additional students (over the cap) may not be allowed, especially in those courses that are assigned to a computer or physics lab. We do not keep a waiting list for full classes.
